APUC Peer Mentoring

An APUC Peer Mentor is a current or past undergraduate student from the Faculty of Science or the Faculty of Engineering and has previously taken part in the Aegis Professor Undergraduate Competition.

The amount of time a peer mentor will allocate to the competition will be at their discretion, however we recommend two one-hour sessions as a starting point. Any additional support is at the discretion of the mentor.

The team will be introduced to their peer mentor, and it is expected that the team will reach out to organise any subsequent meetings with them.

The primary role of the APUC Peer Mentor is to:

  • Offer advice based on their experiences from taking part in the competition
  • Introduce the team to any relevant university or external resources they found helpful
  • Provide encouragement

The APUC Peer Mentor should:

  • Follow the APUC code of conduct.
  •  Serve as a role model.
  • Keep the Team ideas confidential.

APUC Peer mentors CANNOT provide:

  • Ideas and solutions to the team challenges
  • Design or write material for the presentation outputs
  • Pastoral support including mental health. Please contact the Aegis Professor Undergraduate Competition organising committee at scif-apuc@bristol.ac.uk who will put you in touch with services that can.
  • Deal with incidents or bullying allegations.  The university has a process that should be followed and can be found here. Any incidents should be reported to the APUC organising committee immediately (scif-apuc@bristol.ac.uk).

If you don’t hear from your Peer mentor after making contact

If you do not hear from your peer mentor (within 2 weeks of contacting them) please contact the APUC organising committee at scif-apuc@bristol.ac.uk .
